What is California AB 516 / Electronic Report of Sale & Temporary License Plates?

New California Legislation AB 516 is a method of improving public safety upon California's roadways.

Beginning January 1, 2019 dealers will be required to electronically report the sale of a vehicle and issue a Temporary License Plate if the vehicle doesn't have the required number of plates at the time of sale.

Temporary License Plates enable law enforcement and toll operators to access the new owner information, thereby increasing public safety issues and collection of toll fees. California will now be joining 35 other states in offering Temporary License Plates for their vehicle sales.
